I remember the day I played Tacta was at a friend’s house, and I was instantly intrigued by the cards. I could see the challenge instantly in this strategy card game. The rules and play are so simple, and yet I found myself really captivated by this strategy game. Lots of concentration, and time just flew by.
The first time I played Tacta, I was hooked. You flip, rotate, and tactically place cards so your dotted colored shapes overlap your opponents’—you aim to have the most visible “dots” at the end. It’s simple, yet rich with spatial strategy.
At one of my adult game nights, a lot of people said “I enjoyed this game the most”.
How to Play Tacta—Best Strategy Card Game For Game Night
- To start, Each player takes a deck of the same coloured cards and you then shuffle your stack.
- You’ll then grab the abstract starting card and place it in the middle of all players.
- On your turn, you may play either the top or bottom card from your stack.
- The played card must perfectly overlap one color-shape segment on a card already in play; you can flip or rotate your card to align. Aiming to cover your opponents exposed dots and trying to keep your dots safe for being overlapped.
See below; the orange card’s 4 dots are going to cover the green rectangular shape. These two shapes are exactly the same. This also secures the 4 dots as 4 points—because no one can overlap the oranges 4 dots.

- Each player continues to take their turn, trying to find a place to lay their card while keeping their dots safe.
Below, it shows that the pink dot is going to cover the orange dot. Orange will not be able to count that dot at the end as a point, but pink will keep that point (dot) secure.

- If no valid overlap exists, you must play your card adjacent—without touching or overlapping another.
- Players continue to take turns until all cards are played.
- One the last card is played, you count all visible “dots” of your color and your neighbours cards to double check—the highest total wins.
