Nestlings

Designer:  Brandon Ohmie       Publisher: Tangerine Games

Objective of Nestlings

I found in Nestling, you and your fellow players take on the role of bird parents building nests to raise your baby birds. The goal is to gather resources, build the most successful nest, protect your little birds from various challenges, and gain the most points.

Overview of Nestlings

Each player takes turns collecting resources like twigs, leaves, and feathers by drawing cards. These resources are used to build parts of your nest and care for your baby birds. However, watch out for predators and other threats that might affect your nest-building progress. Some cards allow you to sabotage other players or protect your own nest, adding a fun layer of strategy.

A game of Nestlings involved four rounds, one for each season. And during each season you will  be involved in a gathering and a feeding phase. You gain points by feeding your nestlings, completing gathering goals and collecting different resources.

First off, what is a biome in Nestlings?

If you’re like me, “biome” isn’t a word we use widely in our house, and I had to find out what it means. So I’ll share in case you need to learn a fun fact for today, like me.

A biome is a large geographical area characterized by specific climate, vegetation, and animal life. Players assume the role of birds competing to gain priority across four biomes: savannah, alpine, freshwater, and desert. The board is divided up into these four areas with different resources.

How to Play Nestlings

In this fun and strategic game, players explore different biomes while trying to feed their baby birds and complete their nest. Each round begins with everyone rolling their special biome dice. Then, one by one in clockwise order, players take turns placing dice into different biomes on the board.

The first player to place a die in a biome gains priority, which means they get to pick a resource first and even discard one to block other players. But if someone else places more dice in that same biome later, they take priority instead.

Once everyone has finished placing their dice or decided to pass, it’s time to resolve each biome. Players collect resources, feed their nestlings, and add matching pieces to their nest rings on their player boards.

Don’t forget the central wild grasslands biome—it gets resolved too and can offer big rewards.

As the game goes on, players face tough choices:

  • Should they feed nestlings for quick points?

  • Or complete parts of their nest ring to unlock powerful bonuses?

  • Should they spend currency to add an end-game goal, or save it for extra points?

Every decision counts. Choosing when to grab resources, how to compete for priority, and when to play it safe or take a risk can make all the difference.

After four rounds, the game ends. Players reveal their secret nest goals and count up their points. The one with the highest score wins — and proves they’re the ultimate nest builder.

Conclusion

Nestlings is a great new board game for younger children because of its simple mechanics and the cute bird theme. I found it easy to understand, yet it provides plenty of opportunities for strategic thinking, especially as you balance building your nest and defending it. The game encourages cooperative play while still keeping the competitive aspect alive—making it a wonderful choice for our family game night fun.

Objective

In Aang’s Destiny, players take on a cooperative role of adventurers in a mythical world. Your goal is to guide your character through different quests, face challenges, and make pivotal decisions that ultimately determine your fate.

I am finding that cooperative games add a nice dynamic to family game time. Competition is fun sometimes, but it’s also really nice to work together as a team. I am also finding it fabulous to see how we work together as a family. Is someone quiet, and do they or you let others make the decisions, or do you all come to an agreement on play?

Overview of Aang’s Destiny

The game is driven by a deck of cards, each representing a different event or action that influences your character’s journey. You draw cards to gain resources, face challenges, or even battle opponents. Each player has a unique character. Your path to victory depends on how well you manage resources and decisions through the four nations to restore balance to the world. However, the twist is that the destiny of your character can change based on the choices you make, leading to multiple possible outcomes and replayability.

Why It’s Great

If you love tabletop games with a deep storyline and replay value, Aang’s Destiny is a fantastic new board game pick. I find the game’s strategy comes from balancing risk and reward, and the varied events keep things interesting. It’s an ideal board game for families with older kids or teens who enjoy fantasy adventures and, in addition, making more complex decisions.

Yet, with the bonus of being an easy-to-learn board game. The cards keep the game unpredictable, making each playthrough unique and exciting. My only minor con is with the longer game time; I will say it isn’t one that we pick up often.

Objective Of Gnome Hollow

The goal of Gnome Hollow is to build the most prosperous village by attracting gnomes, collecting mushrooms and flowers, and completing village projects. This is achieved by placing tiles to develop rings of mushrooms. Once achieved, you harvest mushrooms, choose bonuses, and take these rewards to market to sell for treasures. Your individual boards automatically calculate scores while providing strategic decision-making.

New Board Game Pick because..

Gnome Hollow is a fun mix of strategy and resource/tile management. It’s an easy new board game for kids but still has enough depth for adults to enjoy. The charming gnome theme and quick playtime make it perfect for a family game night where you want something light yet engaging. Plus, there’s just something magical about building your own little gnome village that brings out everyone’s creativity.

Overview of Play

In Dino Dynasty, players dive into a prehistoric world where each of the six Dynasties includes four unique dinosaur species, each with its own distinct strengths and abilities. From the very start, players build and explore a dynamic map using territory tiles, setting the stage for a constantly evolving adventure.

As the game progresses, you’ll discover multiple ways to play, whether through quick matches, team-based scenarios, or immersive campaign-style sessions. Even better, you can track and save your species’ development across games, adding depth and continuity to your strategy.

What sets Dino Dynasty apart is its foundation in real-world science. The game’s design draws from verified paleontological discoveries, giving it an educational edge. At the same time, it introduces a layer of creative fantasy—imagining what might have been if evolution had taken a different path. Importantly, these imaginative elements stay grounded, remaining true to the known physical traits of each dinosaur species.

The result? A thrilling blend of science, strategy, and storytelling—perfect for gamers who crave both realism and wonder.

Why I think this New Board Game will be a hit.

I love the graphics; they are visually stunning. And if you’re a dinosaur lover, you won’t be disappointed. Dino Dynasty combines strategic game thinking with a fun theme that appeals to both kids and adults. It’s perfect for any family game night or enjoys managing resources, making tough decisions, and thinking of what could have been with dinosaurs. Check out the features below at Ion Game Designs.
