Flip 7 Card Game Review: The Ultimate Press-Your-Luck Party Game

The first time I played the Flip 7 card game, I found myself holding my breath with every single card. It’s a high-stakes, press-your-luck game where the goal is to rack up 200 points before your opponents.

If you love party games that are fast, easy to learn, and full of “oh no!” moments, Flip 7 needs to be on your radar.

Is Flip 7 appropriate for younger children?

It is rated 8+, but with guidance and some coaching from a parent, younger children can join in. They really need to understand: if they get two of the same numbers, they go bust and get no points, but if they “stay”: they keep their points. I find it’s the conservative players that can easily win.

How to Play Flip 7: Rules of the Game

The Flip 7 rules are straightforward, making it one of the most accessible party games for all ages.

The Objective

You score points by adding up the face value of the cards in your row. The ultimate goal is the Flip 7 Bonus: if you flip seven unique numbers in one round, you earn a 15-point bonus, and the round ends instantly.

Starting the Round

  1. The Deal: Each player starts with one card face-up.

  2. Action Cards: If an Action Card is dealt, you must resolve it immediately before continuing.

  3. Hit or Stay: On your turn, you decide:

    • Hit: Take another card. But beware—if you flip a number you already have in your row, you bust and score zero for that round.

    • Stay: Stop while you’re ahead and bank your current total.

The Deck: Not Your Average Cards

The Flip 7 game deck is mathematically stacked to make your decisions harder. There are 12 twelves, 11 elevens, 10 tens… all the way down to a single zero. The higher the numbers, the more likely you are to bust.

Special Cards to Watch For

To keep things unpredictable, the deck includes Action and Modifier cards:

  • Action Cards:

    • Freeze: Can instantly change the game.  You can give this card to any player, and they can’t continue playing for that round.

    • Flip Three: I love this card. It can either help you a lot or set you or someone else out of the game.  You can play for yourself or pass to someone else.

    • Second Chance: A “save” card that lets you discard a duplicate number instead of busting.

  • Modifier Cards:

    • +2 to +10: Adds extra points to your total.

    • x2: Doubles the points of all your number cards. (Tip: Calculate the multiplier before adding the plus cards!)

How a Round Ends

A round of the Flip 7 card game ends when:

  1. Every player has either “stayed” or “busted.”

  2. One player successfully flips seven unique numbers.

Starting a New Round: Move used cards to a discard pile. Only reshuffle the full deck once all cards have been used. This adds a layer of card-counting strategy for more competitive players!

Frequently Asked Questions

Flip 7 Card Game

Is Flip 7 a good Card Game?

I love the Flip 7 Card Game. It super easy to learn; you can explain it in a couple of minutes. It’s a great party game and is fabulous to play with your family and a large group of friends.

Is Flip 7 a good family game?

Absolutely, you could possibly play with children younger than 8 with support.

My son is constantly saying, “risk it for the biscuit.” And I love seeing who wins between the “hit” child and the stay-safe child. That’s the joy, because you never know who will win.

How many players for Flip 7 card game?

One pack is for 3-7 players, but you can add 2 packs for more players.

Is Flip 7 card game good for neurodiverse people?

I am not an expert in this area, but I play with ADHD teenagers, and they love it because it’s a quick action game. The gameplay is constantly moving.  Each individual can play to their style.Win by risking it with “hits” or playing safe and “staying.”

How long does a game of Flip 7 last?

A game of Flip 7 takes around 20 minutes to play.  That does depend on the amount of people. More people, sligthly longer.  But each round is feel quick and engaging.  No waiting around.

Flip 7 Pro Tip

What are the best strategies for Flip 7 card game?

Pay attention to the discard pile! Since you only reshuffle when the deck is empty, you can actually track which high numbers are “out.” Of course, you need a better memory than mine. If you know most of the 12s have already been played, it’s much safer to keep flipping.

The Flip Three card is a powerful tool, but you have to time it right to get the best results. Here is how I suggest using it during your game:

  • Early in the Round: If I draw this on my very first turn, I usually keep it for myself. Since I don’t have any cards yet, there is almost no risk of busting, and it’s a great way to build up my point total quickly.

  • Later in the Round: Once I have a few cards on the table, I prefer to pass it to an opponent. Forcing a rival—especially the person in the lead—to flip three extra cards is a fantastic way to make them bust and lose their points!

Pro Tip: Passing this card is a classic “take-that” move. It doesn’t guarantee a bust every time, but it definitely puts the pressure on your competition (and excitement!).
