Flip 7 Card Game – Learn How to Play in a Few Easy Steps

Flip 7 Card Game

The first time I played Flip 7 Card Game, I remember holding my breath every time I received a card. It’s that kind of game—a press-your-luck thrill ride where the goal is to rack up 200 points before anyone else.

In Flip 7, you score points by adding up the value of the cards in front of you, but the real challenge is in chasing the bonus. If you manage to “flip” seven unique numbers in your line, the round ends immediately and you score an additional 15-point bonus.

But here’s where I found the challenge came in. Do I play it safe or risk it and go home, as they say. Because for each draw/flip of a number you already have, you bust and score no points that round.

The Flip 7 deck isn’t your standard set of cards. This one is stacked with multiples of each number—12 twelves, 11 elevens, 10 tens, and so on, right down to a single zero.

And just to keep you on your toes, there are action and modifier cards.

How to play Flip 7 Card Game

The flip 7 rules are easy.  You grab a pen and paper to keep track of the score, use the QR code on the front of the rules to download a score sheet, or head over to The OP Games to download and print off the Flip 7 game score sheet.

Starting Flip 7 Rules

To Start:

  • The dealer deals one card face-up to each player, including themselves.
  • If you deal an Action card, stop and resolve that action then and there.
  • Then carry on dealing to the rest of the players.

Based on the Action and Modifiers cards, not everyone will have one card. Some may have more or less.

  • Next, each player decides if they want to be “hit” (receive another card) or
  • stay” (leave the round and collect their points).
  • If you “hit,” you must place these cards side by side in a row, and
  • Score modifier cards you are dealt get placed above the card.
  • If you decide to stay in the round, simply add up the value of each card you’re holding.
  • After that, include any modifier card values. For example, if you have a 1 card, a 10 card, and a 6 card, plus a modifier card worth +4, your total would be 1 + 10 + 6 = 17, and then add +4 from the modifier card. This gives you a final score of 21 for that round.

Are Action and Modifier Cards Part of the Flip 7?

Action or Modifier cards are not included in the Flip 7 bonus. What is the Flip 7 bonus? Flip 7 is when you have been dealt 7 different cards in front of you. I.e., no two cards are the same value. I.e., you cannot have 2 twos or 2 fives in front of you.

What are Flip 7 Action Cards?

Flip 7 action cards can only be used on active players, including yourself. If you are the only player active, then this must be played on yourself.

What are the action cards?

  • Freeze: The player who is dealt this card banks their points and is out of the round.
  • Flip Three: This player will be dealt an additional three cards at that time. If they player Flips 7 the games stops or if the the player busts (e.g., the same number card has been dealt twice to them). If a freeze or Flip 3 is dealt during this process, these are resolved after all three cards are drawn, but only if the player hasn’t gone bust.
  • Second Chance: It’s a keeper. If or when you are dealt a card of the same value, you may use the Second Chance card to discard that card of the same value as already shown.

The Modifier Cards

  • Modifiers are not number cards and are not included in the Flip 7.
  • +2 to +10 cards. Add the amount shown, e.g., +10, to the sum of your face cards.
  • X 2 cards = double the points of all your number cards.
  • If you have both of these cards, first use the multiply card and then add any + cards to that value.

How a Round Ends

As the round continues, players take turns until no one is left active. In other words, everyone has either “stayed” or has busted.

Alternatively, a round also ends if one player successfully flips seven unique number cards. In this case, that player earns an extra 15 bonus points.

Once the round ends, everyone adds their points together. Then, each player records their total on the score sheet.

How to Start a New Round in Flip 7

  • To begin a new round, first move all cards from the previous round to the side. These cards will not be used in the next round.
  • Continue playing with the remaining cards. When you have used up all the cards in the deck, bring back the cards from the earlier rounds.

Of course, give the cards a good shuffle before dealing again to keep the game fair and exciting.

End of the Game

At the end of each round, check everyone’s scores. The first player to reach 200 points becomes the winner.
