The magnetic player boards are a fantastic touch—they track your score automatically while you focus on the “cozy” strategy of building the best forest path.
Aang’s Destiny

- Objective: Work together as the “Gaang” to defeat Fire Nation adversaries and complete story objectives to restore balance to the world.
- Game Overview: If you’ve played Hogwarts Battle, this will feel familiar but with a fresh “bending” twist. It’s a cooperative deck-builder that spans seven unlockable boxes of content, following the show’s plot. Our family really enjoys how the game grows in difficulty as Aang learns new elements and we recruit allies like Appa and Momo.
Dino Dynasty

- Objective: Be the most successful dinosaur species by completing specific “Challenges” like expanding territory, creating herds, or surviving environmental shifts.

I think the “evolution” mechanic is the best part—you can actually see your species change and gain new abilities to better suit the prehistoric world.

The Objective: Why We’re Building Nests
In Nestlings, we take on the roles of bird parents racing to build a successful home for our hatchlings. The goal is to gather resources, protect our little ones from challenges, and earn the most points by the end of the year.
Game Overview: A Year in the Life of a Bird
The game spans four rounds, representing the four seasons. Each season consists of a gathering phase and a feeding phase. We spend our time:
- Collecting resources like twigs, leaves, and feathers.
- Feeding nestlings to earn quick points.
- Managing threats like predators that can stall our progress.
- Strategizing with cards that can either protect our nest or throw a wrench in our opponents’ plans.
What is a “Biome”?
I had to look this one up myself! A biome is just a large area with a specific climate and wildlife. In this game, we compete across four distinct areas on the board:
- Savannah
- Alpine
- Freshwater
- Desert Plus, the central Wild Grasslands for extra rewards!
How to Play Nestling: Step-by-Step
The gameplay is strategic but flows beautifully once you get moving:
Roll the Dice: Everyone rolls their special biome dice to start the round.
Place Dice: We take turns placing dice into different biomes.
Pro Tip: The first person to place a die gets “priority” (first pick of resources), but be careful—someone can steal priority by placing more dice there later!
Resolve Biomes: Once all dice are placed, we collect resources, feed our birds, and add matching pieces to our player boards.
The Big Decisions: This is where the tension kicks in! We constantly have to choose:
Do we feed nestlings for immediate points?
Do we finish our nest ring to unlock powerful bonuses?
Do we spend currency on end-game goals or save it for the final tally?

Objective
In Aang’s Destiny, players take on a cooperative role of adventurers in a mythical world. Your goal is to guide your character through different quests, face challenges, and make pivotal decisions that ultimately determine your fate.
I am finding that cooperative games add a nice dynamic to family game time. Competition is fun sometimes, but it’s also really nice to work together as a team. I am also finding it fabulous to see how we work together as a family. Is someone quiet, and do they or you let others make the decisions, or do you all come to an agreement on play?
Overview of Aang’s Destiny
The game is driven by a deck of cards, each representing a different event or action that influences your character’s journey. You draw cards to gain resources, face challenges, or even battle opponents. Each player has a unique character. Your path to victory depends on how well you manage resources and decisions through the four nations to restore balance to the world. However, the twist is that the destiny of your character can change based on the choices you make, leading to multiple possible outcomes and replayability.
Why It’s Great
If you love tabletop games with a deep storyline and replay value, Aang’s Destiny is one of the best new board games. I find the game’s strategy comes from balancing risk and reward, and the varied events keep things interesting. It’s an ideal board game for families with older kids or teens who enjoy fantasy adventures and, in addition, making more complex decisions.
Yet, with the bonus of being an easy-to-learn board game. The cards keep the game unpredictable, making each playthrough unique and exciting. My only minor con is with the longer game time; I will say it isn’t one that we pick up often.

I absolutely love the look of Gnome Hollow. It’s a stunning Eurogame where we get to grow our own tabletop garden filled with mushrooms and wildflowers. The watercolor art makes the whole experience feel like stepping into a peaceful, magical forest.
The gameplay is a clever mix of placing tiles to build the garden and moving our gnomes to claim the best spots. It’s a very satisfying “loop”—we build mushroom rings, harvest them for bonuses, and then head to the market to trade them for the shiniest treasures in the hollow.
The Objective: Harvesting Success
Our goal is to be the cleverest gnome by the end of the season! We earn points by completing mushroom rings, collecting unique wildflowers, and selling our harvests for high-value treasures. I’ve found the magnetic player boards are a huge plus—they automatically track our progress and scores, so we can stay focused on our next strategic move.
